How It Started
Here For The Miles began with a simple belief: walking is exercise, and with community it becomes even more enjoyable. What started as a personal habit, morning walks to reset the mind and body, grew into a larger idea: what if this kind of simple wellness could be shared with more people, not just individuals but entire groups?
The idea took shape at a time when fitness often felt intense or out of reach. Still today, many programs focus on high performance or come with high costs. There is a clear gap. Something more approachable is missing. People need a space that feels natural, calming, and easy to take part in.
Walking provides that foundation. Community adds support. Mindfulness gives it emotional depth. Together, they create a space that supports both physical health and emotional well-being.
It started small. No one came to the first walk, and only one person came to the second. But those quiet beginnings became the spark. Over time, more people joined in, bringing their own stories, and desire for connection.
Today, Here for the Miles is a nonprofit that continues to encourage the community to get active with community events, and provides customizable wellness events for companies, residential communities, and local groups.
What began with one person and one idea has grown into a wellness program with a purpose. The journey is still unfolding, and the path ahead is full of momentum!
The Mission
Here For The Miles is dedicated to making wellness more accessible. A central part of the mission is to reintroduce walking as an acceptable and effective form of exercise. In a culture that often pushes extremes, Here for the Miles reminds people that physical activity can be simple but still effective. Walking counts. It clears the mind, supports the body, and creates space for people to be present.
Each event is designed to feel supportive and refreshing without being overwhelming. Whether during a short weekday walk or a longer event, the focus remains on helping people feel better in ways that last.
