Why We Walk (Rescheduled)

Why do we walk?

We walk because walking is exercise. Period. Add community to it, and it becomes even more enjoyable.

With the August 50-Mile Challenge coming to an end, we are stepping into something new together. Starting next week, Here For The Miles launches a 4-week event series to encourage consistency, strengthen our community, and give each walk a little extra meaning.

Every week flows into the next, but you can join in at any time, whether it is your first walk or your tenth. Also expect to see a few pop up events during the weekdays throughout September as well.

Come out to Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve this Saturday, August 30 to get prepped. Share your goals with us and pick up a Milestones Booklet (or click the booklet below to download and print your own) so you feel confident and ready before the 4-week series begins on September 6. Let’s make this a month to remember! Before then, take a moment to think about your “why.”


🌸 The September Series 🌸 Here’s What To Expect:


Week 1 · September 6 · Finding Your Footing
Get grounded, set your “why,” and start strong with a 3-mile walk.

Week 2 · September 13 · Together We Can!
Build connection and walk further, side by side. Push each other a little more with 4 miles.

Week 3 · September 20 · Mindfulness in Motion
Reflect, reset, and let your miles clear your head. This 3-mile walk is slower paced, giving space for breathing, presence, and reflection.

Week 4 · September 27 · Miles Ahead
Celebrate progress while looking forward to what is next. We’ll cover 4 miles and close the month with strength and community.

Event Details

• 📍 Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve - 5901 Los Rios Blvd, Plano, TX 75074

• 🕒 Walks typically run about 40-60 minutes, followed 5-10 minutes of stretching

• 👟 Wear: activewear and comfy shoes! Optional: mat for stretching, and a sweat towel

This is a one-time requirement and will remain on file for future events. However, an RSVP is still required for each event you plan to attend.

What to Expect at HFTM Events

Guided Walk
We’ll walk 2 to 4 miles over 40 to 60 minutes. The pace will start steady and conversational so everyone can feel comfortable, but be ready to pick up the pace and feel the burn. Feel free to bring a weighted vest if you’re looking for an extra challenge.

Icebreakers
Throughout the walk, we’ll do a couple of light icebreakers to help everyone feel a bit more connected. Sharing is always optional.

Cool-Down
We’ll end with a few stretches and time to chat and unwind!
